Time-out for Squaw Valley...

Four of my friends and myself had a great time at the Handweavers Conference in Squaw Valley CA (Olympic Village), along with a couple of hundred other weaving friends.  Our conference theme was “Textile * Games” since the Olympics were held there in 1960.  The facility went thru a multi-million dollar renovation a couple of years ago and what a fabulous place to stay.  I prepared the opening 3 minute “Ceremony” -  a DVD that featured snippets of my hiking club, and some of the conference committee, running and carrying a torch on many of our hikes through the high Sierra Nevada Mountains, over the past 2 summers.  Everyone loved it so much they asked if it could be played again the following night.  My granddaughter Cassie was the recorded voice singing America the Beautiful and our National Anthem “A cappella”.  In addition to taking classes on many weaving/spinning techniques, we played lots of textile games for beautiful medals.  My friend Julie won the silver for her creative and fast “weaving shuttle” during the “shuttle race” and I won the Bronze for my entry in the “non-wearable” portion of the “textile parade” which featured over 45 wonderful handwoven creations.  I raced home for a day and a half between that event and our NW 2013 Adventure and managed to fit in a pickleball clinic before we loaded the car...

A local scout troop provided the "pinewood derby track"
and 21 embellished "weaving shuttles", with added wheels
raced down the track 3 times for a combined score.

Julie's shuttle achieved the fastest time of all
during one heat...and she won a Silver Medal for
the combined time.

Suzanne (left) co-chair, enjoying lunch with Margie, Cathy
and Susan.  Hiking and weaving friends enjoying the outdoors
between classes at 6200'.  A beautiful 75 degrees, while
is was pushing 100 degrees in Sacramento 90 miles away!!!

How's this for a classroom with a view...hard to learn
that new process!!!

Nancy (wearing her medal)... with long-time (not old),
weaving friendMadelyn van der Hoogt - recently retired
editor of Handwoven Magazine.

Nancy's Bronze Medal entry in the non-wearable category...

Nancy's projects made in the 3-hour class Cyanotype...a
process that lets you transfer photographic images to fabric which
can be further embellished with paints and pens.
My Bronze medal in the upper right corner.

The best looking lupine's I've ever seen...must
get lots of sun, fertilizer and TLC
 at Squaw Valley Resort!!!
