JUNEAU (Alaska Recap)

As I sit here creating, a thunder and lightening storm started.    It's about 70 degrees, feels like we're in Hawaii.  Everyone is out watching it because they say they don't have thunder and lightening....not for about 8 years.  And the big news, is we haven't worn mosquito repellant and have not even seen any mosquitos!!!  The Wilderness Explorer (our "un-cruise") ship crew told us they had never taken a cruise in this area where it didn't rain most every day.  We had no rain at all on the cruise...just foggy one morning.

June 18 is a FLY day to Seattle.  We’ll continue our DRIVE portion of this current adventure on the 19th when we head for North Cascade NP in Washington...see you in a day or two.  I've included a few more photos of some of the sites we've seen here in AK...
OMG - AK size buttermilk pancakes!!!
Should have ordered 1 not 3.

Looking for geocaches

along Gold Creek - where the "rush" started.

The federal gov't ordered an eagle status for the new
Federal Building, but received Pelicans instead...

However there are no pelicans in AK, but it was too
expensive to return to Florida, so Pelicans stay in AK !!!
(I loved it - Pelicans are my favorite bird)

The Governor's Mansion

from the side

Tree roots are very shallow in AK and are often
covered with moss and lichen when exposed...

Beautiful flowers everywhere
A creative Juneau garden

with a beautiful small tree

The AJ (Alaska Juneau) mine was a hard rock gold mine.
They tell us that the space inside the mountain was so big
it could hold a 2500 passenger cruise ship, length wise and
even standing on end without hitting the sides or top of the mine!!!
That's one big hole in the mountain...
