On June 10th I woke about 6:00 a.m. and marveled at the stunning snow-capped peaks that surrounded our exploring place for the day, in Freshwater Bay. Before breakfast someone spotted a brown bear (grizzly) meandering in shoulder high grass along the shore. By 9:00 a.m., Don and I “donned” out kayaking gear, rubber boots, life vest, and “skirts”...all necessary for a sit-in kayak trip. In CA, we use sit on top/self bailing kayaks when paddling around our warm water lakes. We had just started when a crew member came out to us, in the motor powered skiff, to tell us that the brown bear was back on the beach and encouraged us to stay 100 yards off shore. We saw several bald eagles, a beautiful waterfall and unusual and unique salt water critters. It was another beautiful, and rare sunny day along the inland passage on our way to Glacier Bay. At the end of playing, the Captain headed for Fish Bay. Since it’s light so late, we had a beautiful view all the way.

Dressed like puffins...ready for a swim... actually a kayak. |
That black spot...a black bear. |
We paddled back behind a couple of our friends and the
bear backed up too - near the brush line for a quick exit. |
Then we saw these gooey - slimy things clinging to the rocks.
I asked what they were and was told, but forgot!!! |
He's back... |
So we paddled away and hung out with a bald eagle for
a while!!! |
As we paddled back to the big boat, |
our friends were returning from their paddle board
trip. They stayed out and up as long as we paddled...
about one and one-half hour!!! |
Every where you looked, any time of the 18 hours of daylight
there was something breathtaking and unique to see.
