Canadian Escapades #2 Telegraph Cove - Vancouver Island
Sixty-four degrees most of the day as we drove the 223 miles to Telegraph Cove (almost at the end of the Hwy 19 N on Vancouver Island). WHY you might ask...because it was on Nancy’s bucket list to visit the Grizzly Bear Sanctuary at Knight Inlet...more about that tomorrow. Today we enjoyed a fun and relaxing drive that took us from 10:00 a.m. till 5:30 p.m. That’s because we’re having too much fun along the way, mostly sight seeing with a few geocache attempts and finds along the way.
Telegraph Cove derived its name from the establishment of the telegraph station here in 1911. During WWII the population began to swell. In the early 1980’s, the present owners of Telegraph Cove (Gordie and Marilyn Graham) began development of the area. The cove is swamped with fishermen, Whale watchers and kayakers who come to take advantage of this fabulous remote place with quaint, restful and charming amenities! All of the cute buildings have historical explanation signs, so walking around was very delightful and we learned a lot.

On our way from Nanaimo to Telegraph Cove |
we decided to check out Deep Bay. |
Not sure if this is a military or lighthouse situation, but we saw several along the way. |
This place wasn't for sale but was my favorite at the end of the spit... |
They even had a boat for Don... |
Later we enjoyed watching the oyster boats |
up close and personal. |
LOW TIDE...have to wait it out - wading could be knee deep. |
Telegraph Cove at the end of the peer, checking out our "Grizzly ride" for tomorrow. |
Our room is the third window from the right... At high tide the water is clear up under the building. |
Don unlocks the stubborn door that always took at least 5 minutes to unlock, but it was worth it |
This was the view from our room. And I always love a room with a view... PRIMO |
