CRUISING - Day 7 + a little of Day 8

Friday was our last full day brought us sun again with a few thin clouds.  Our 9:30 skiff trip took us along the shore of Geikie Inlet to search for beasts.  Our guide today was Jeanine, the Park Ranger we picked up at Glacier Bay headquarters.  (She is also a weaver and we enjoyed spare time comparing notes.)  What a trip...5 black bears, 1 bald eagle and 2 mergansers and an oyster catcher in Tyndall Cove (Geikie Inlet)!!!

The afternoon a 2 hour shore walk...hoping the bears were sleeping in the woods while we strolled the shore.  We saw bear prints, lots of bald eagle activity including one instance where the eagle stole a baby bird from a ground nest and the whole flock chased after him unsuccessfully.  They would try to peck at him in flight, but once those gallons get locked around something they don't unlock until the eagle beats it against something hard...then the catch is released.

Before dinner those who wished to joined in the Polar Jump off the back kayak landing deck.  I didn't do it...surprise!!!  After dinner, we had a slide show prepared by the staff and set to music.  What a fun time.  We traveled late that evening and dropped our ranger back at Glacier Bay Headquarters.

We pulled into Juneau early in the morning and enjoyed one final breakfast with people who had become good friends.  A great group and we got to know everyone.  An e-mail list was put together and George from the Netherlands will put up a yahoo groups site for us to all share the best of our thousands of photographs.    Speaking of photos, I didn't take many today as I was trying hard to squeeze every last minute out of this unbelievable week.

Stay tuned for our 3-day dry land excursions in beautiful Juneau.

When we boarded they took photos of all guests
and posted it in the hall on the way to the dining room.
A great idea.
