CRUISING - Wilderness Explorer June 8 - 15 . . .

As you’ve noticed we’ve been out of touch while cruising.  I wrote the blog each day and will now try to publish them all here in Juneau...

June 8 Day 1 was sort of a hurry up and wait kink of a day.  After checking out of our Sitka Super 8 motel, we drug our luggage a short 2 blocks to the Westmark Hotel to ready for our small ship cruise.  We had half a day left after securing our belongings in the “ready” suite.  So we shopped, did lunch and some last minute site-seeing before “wandering”  back to the hotel.  With a wine in hand, I applied myself and managed to finish editing all our video footage.  We were transported to the ship by bus and our Wilderness Exploration began with a cocktails, a welcome orientation and a fabulous dinner as we pulled out of Sitka under partially cloudy skies which presented a fabulous sunset about 10:00 p.m.   We spent the night in Paviat Harbor

A Tlingit (pronounced Klinkit) Ceremonial Canoe.

We visited the Sitka Firehouse and received a tour.  The fireman
giving us the tour said that the lady whose name is painted
on the fire ladder truck gave them $300,000 after they
cleaned her driveway with a firehose in early spring.
It paid for half of this $600,000 rig!!!

where we also spotted these beautiful blue flowers.

They really did  look like crepe paper.

Our luggage as well as 73 other passengers awaits
in the "ready room"

We boarded the "boat"
