Huntsman World Senior Games Update

Thanks family and friends for wishing me well.  Guess I needed more than that.  Monday - Ladies Doubles age 70-74 included 8 teams, and we were seeded 7th, which meant we played the #2 seeded team for our first match!!!  They beat us 2 our of 3, so we dropped down into the consolation finals.  That’s o.k., because you can progress across that tier and if you keep winning, you get a chance to play for the Gold...  However, there was a team I know from home, my kayaking, pickleball friend Sharon, who has played here for about 4 years and always medaled in several of her events.  This year she turned 70 (my age group) and I never expected to see her loose her first match...she and her partner Claire (whom I also know from the Rocklin area at home), but she did, which is the reason why we lost our first consolation match...and were out of the competition!!!  But I really enjoyed the day, watching Sharon and Claire, go all the way to the Gold Medal round where they closely lost, but walked away with the Silver.

Wednesday I will play with my mixed doubles partner Bill Fixmer (from home) who is 68, which means I play down one age group and up at least one skill level...those are the rules.  The age group 65-69 is the largest group here, with 32 teams registered.  They split it into an A and B level of 16 teams each.  Since we were originally seeded as team #15, this means we have to play in the A group, which includes all the top teams; 5.0, 4.5, 4.0 (Bill).  There are only 2 of us at level 3.5 in this upper division... Bad news for the luck of the draw.  Hopefully we’ll have fun and win a game or two anyway.  I’ll let you know.

Thursday is Women’s skill level 3.5 and I registered for age group 70-74 with my partner Janice (from Mesquite NV) whom I played with on Monday...  We are seeded 8 out of 9 teams, an my friends Sharon and Claire are also there - so it may be a short day again, but I’ll give it my best and report in later.  They grouped 2 age groups and 2 skill levels together so it’s the luck of the draw again...  I've included a few photos and hopefully you'll be able to play the one video...  Later!!!

A matching pair...

Nancy's ready

Janice gets the shot and the point.
Way to go...
Nancy's glad the opponent didn't get that one over.

  1. Sorry your first competition was rather short. Hope the Mixed & Women's on Monday goes better! See you soon.
