WHITE MOUNTAIN PASS

What a difference a day makes.  Today was clear blue sky and about 80 degrees as we explored outside of Mt Rainier
NP, traveling West on Hwy 12 over White Pass (only 4500’), a popular ski area.  The views of Mt Rainier at a number of vista points, a couple of major waterfalls and 7 geocaches (including a travel bug), filled the morning and we reached our lunch spot (Trout Lake Restaurant) about 3.5 hours later.  After a great lunch at a beautiful spot with a lovely small garden alongside a small stream, we made our 43 mile return trip in only 45 minutes!!!  We tried to hike a little of the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail), just to say we did, but were overwhelmed by pesky mosquitos...our first bad encounter of the trip.  Not bad for day #33!!   Music in the park next to the Hotel Packwood concluded our day as we listened to a guitarist play and sing.  A few of our favorite shots are included in the photo gallery.  We head for Oregon tomorrow morning.

Flat Top Falls

The Cascade Range from the East side,
south of Mount Rainier

Mount Rainier from the SE corner

The Palisades

dwarf our SUV.
We often see these while hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mtns
but the mosquitos here were feasting on Don and myself...

but he perservered and found the travel bug geocache!!!

I had to point out the PCT since we hike many parts of it
in California!!!

A scenic lake along the way

where I caught a wonderful reflection of an
interesting mountain of the Wast side of
White Pass Summit.
Clear Creek Falls

Rimrock Lake is very scenic place

and others also enjoy the sunny hot day!!!

Just one more day
