As we celebrate our Independence, this July 4th 2013, it is also the 80th Anniversary of the Civilian Conservation Corps-CCC who, during the depression era, worked on infrastructure projects especially in our National Parks. Much of what they typically did we saw today as we stepped back in time to enjoy much of Mount Rainier (14,410') NP. The drive from Packwood to Sunrise Visitor Center (6400’) was stunning as the clouds lifted and presented us with a magnificent view of the entire area as we checked out the mountain tops for a complete 360 degree view. The road opened for the season just yesterday!!!
Don grabbed a few geocaches prior to entering the park boundaries, as the planting of geocaches is not generally permitted within park boundaries. We’ll be exploring more of the park tomorrow...
