FABULOUS OLD GROWTH FORESTS... TO THE BLUE PACIFIC

We only traveled 109 miles west and south on Hwy 101 - The Pacific Coast Scenic Hwy, to our new home for 2 nights...Kalaloch Lodge.  Along the way we visited Hoh Rain Forest  in Olympic Nat’l Park and enjoyed a 1 mile loop walk, “The Hall of Mosses Trail”, thru more massive trees...more massive in height than diameter, although some were in excess of 19’.   Most were covered with major amounts of moss and lichens.   My favorites were the large big leaf maples that were draped with hanging club moss.  Other side trips included the big Cedar (missed the Big Sitka Spruce) and stops at Ruby Beach, Beach 4, and a late snack at Beach 3 overlook.   The Hoh River was impressive in itself, as it dropped 7000’ from Mt Olympus Glaciers to the Pacific.  We arrived at Kalaloch Lodge and were pleased with Cottage 1 overlooking Beach 2, which we will explore tomorrow.  Kalaloch Creek jammed with large driftwood trees...
