Hot, Hot, Hot - mid-90’s “drive” us inside and up…

Although it’s hard to beat a bear story, we celebrated our daughter Kristine’s 50th birthday, at her home, in Folsom CA., a few days before the heat arrived and then she and her family went to Cancun Mexico for a week. Everett, Cassie and Kenny flew home after the first week and Richard and Kristine journeyed on to Cabo for another week - home today.

son-in-law Richard.

Kristine shows she's not all grown up - while Richard
and I are more reserved...

Enjoying the sun and sand in Mexico,
Everett, Cassie, Kenny, Kristine & Richard.

Our door activities - hiking and geocaching find us in the higher elevations now between 6400-7200 ‘.  It’s not only the heat but the elevation that creates lots of heavy breathing for all those activities.  And, even the Blue Jay babies  flew the coop… right after I took this photo...  Don managed a little geocaching and I played lots of pickle ball early in the a.m.

If it was all about form I'd win...  Playing
with Paulo in a mixed doubles tournament -
win some, loose some!!!
In addition to geocaches, Don found the massive Oak
tree when he was out and about... and couldn't resist
taking it's picture!!!
Even though Don says that “sitting” is something I don’t do well, sitting at one’s loom and weaving is a great way to pass the day without breaking a sweat.  So I finished weaving that 12 yards of material and constructed yards and yards of narrow valances for our AZ home.  Then quickly warped the loom again, this time for the AZ dining room chairs upholstery.  “Warped” is a word you may not be familiar with… in weaving terms, it means threading the loom with the threads (yarn) for a project.  And most in the weaving world know that “You have to be warped to weave”…  Don can verify that!!!

The valances will "gather" in this direction
when hung in our AZ home...

Had to add a little RED for the kitchen, with
a handwoven band...

Then the loom is warped (placing the yarn on the loom)
again, as the yarn is wound on very carefully...

Bobbins are also wound with a variety of colors...

Weaving progresses inch by inch...

Then the fabric is removed from the loom, washed,
dried and, in this case, interfacing is applied to the wrong
side for this upholstery material for the dining chairs!!!
The Loch Leven Lakes Trail took us on a journey past many beautiful, cold water lakes, Salmon, Lower, Middle and Upper Loch Leven where wild flowers were just starting to bloom.

This gnarled log shows us how sever the wind
and weather can be in the high Sierra Nevada Mtns.

The next week, Carr, Feeley, Long, Island and Crooked Lakes made for a “cool” hike all the way up to Penner Lake at about 7,000’, where we normally swim when hiking in July.  The water was so cold that your feet turned pink and tingled after being submerged for less than a minute so we just enjoyed our lunch spot with yet another beautiful view.

Penner Lake is surrounded by a colorful collection
of rocky peaks.

On the way home this path of spirea filled the
space between rows of trees which lead our
eyes to the distant tree reflections in Long Lake.
